Plandex is a seriously impressive coding agent that's evolved into something quite powerful. It's designed specifically for developers working on large, complex software projects - think massive codebases with millions of lines of code. The tool can autonomously handle end-to-end development tasks including planning, implementation, testing, and debugging.
What makes it special is the multi-model approach (combining Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google models) and the built-in sandbox environment for reviewing changes before they hit your actual codebase. The 2M token context window and ability to index 20M+ token projects is genuinely useful for enterprise-scale development.
However, this is very much a developer tool. While it offers cloud hosting options, non-technical business owners would struggle to get value from it unless they have development teams. It's open source which is great for trust and customization, but the setup and effective use requires coding knowledge.
